The colour-washed houses are a delight with the backdrop of the green hills and blue waters. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were frequent visitors and now the rich and famous are catered for by the designer boutiques, lavish hotels and fabulous restaurants and bars. <br /><br />The magic of Portofino is of course always to be seen, but a visit in the spring or early autumn is wonderful as many of the fashionistas do not arrive until high summer. Best seats in the fabulous restaurants overlooking the harbour can be had with rather more ease, and the sun warmed Paraggi bay is still inviting.
